A documentary short film about Howick resident Taini Drummond who plays an important role in protecting and preserving te ao Māori in her local east Auckland community.
Along with Tainui whakapapa, she is the long-time kaitiaki of Owairoa Marae and throughout her tenure has faced many race-based and cultural challenges.
This film explores Taini’s experiences, highlighting her ideas of a partnered and peaceful community, her mana and kaitiakitanga, and her fight to exist as Māori under a system that tries to strip away her identity.
