Pianos in early Auckland were played in every conceivable venue and in most homes.
They were the hub of music-making across the city, and the harp was an essential instrument in professional orchestral and theatrical productions.
The Leys Orchestra festival concert illustrates the roles played by piano and harp in early Auckland's social and musical fabric.
