Event details

Explore the colourful past of a unique township as part of Warkworth's 170th anniversary.

Historian Dave Parker will cover the founding of Warkworth from 1853, along with the history of Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga buildings and landmarks and their significance to the area.

Lyn Wade will talk about the life and times of local pioneering families. Lyn is a descendant of the prominent Wilson and Morrison families.

Peter Thompson will share his knowledge of early steamboat activity and his passion for historic vessels on the Mahurangi River. Peter helped restore the historical 'Jane Gifford’.

This talk is part of the wider Heritage Mahurangi Festival, running from 11-19 November, which features a heritage river pageant, a street parade, walks, a local pioneers event, and more.
