Event details

A talk about the peace movement of the 70s, 80s and early 90s when ordinary people changed New Zealand's foreign policy and our identity as a nation.

Maire Leadbeater and Frances Palmer will focus on the energy and creativity of the movement from the hundreds of Peace Squadron boats confronting nuclear warships and submarines to the diverse groups of scientists, doctors, engineers, artists and ordinary citizens who took this cause to the politicians and to the streets.

The talk will include a photographic record of these historic peace activities. Frances Palmer will talk about a history resource for schools which outlines New Zealand peace protest voices from the 1890s on.
