Event details

Geologist and author Bruce Hayward leads a coastal walk around the shoreline from Army Bay.

See some of the most complex and spectacularly deformed young strata in New Zealand. The cliffs and shore platforms display major faults and tightly folded, slumped and displaced rocks that were deposited on the floor of the ocean 20 million years ago.

The tide will be low and the walk relatively easy, returning to the starting point. The walk will go ahead regardless of weather.
