Founded in 1962, Las Vegas Club is the oldest nightclub in New Zealand.
The iconic Vegas Girl embodied the culture of K' Road. It was the most visible example of the area's reputation as a red light district during the 1960s to 1990s.
The large sign of a nude woman concealed one of K' Road's earlier buildings. Constructed as Frederick Prime's Hardware Store around the 1900s, the ground floor was occupied by a T&T Childrenswear shop in the late 1980s.
This tribute to Las Vegas Club celebrates the iconic image. The evening will include stories from the origins of the sign as an artist concept, to capturing and captivating an alternative culture, an artist talk, and screening of the short film 'Dazed'.
