He amassed an art collection of over 400 paintings and 20 sculptures by the time of his death in 1907.

The Bramley painting was one of his earliest purchases.

Join historian and writer Laurie McCallum for the intriguing story behind one of the most popular paintings at the gallery - Frank Bramley's For of Such is the Kingdom of Heaven – and how it came to Auckland.
