Event details

A display at Devonport Historical Museum about the lives and livelihoods of a selection of Devonport's founding families. Their final resting place is on the slopes of Mt Victoria/Takarunga Cemetery, formerly known as Flagstaff, which operated from 1858 to 1891.

Names such as Oliver, Patuone, Duder, O'Neill, Niccol, Pitts, Trevarthan, Wynyard and others are all commemorated in the cemetery.

The display details their arrival, occupations, residence, family connections and their contributions to the rich and colourful history of one of Auckland's earliest communities.

For those who cannot join the walks at Mt Victoria/Takarunga Cemetery, this offers an insightful display of founding families and the history of Devonport, in a charming museum setting.
