Event details

Three council-owned historic buildings in Onehunga will be open for viewing:

  • Journeys End, a replica of an 1847 Fencibles cottage
  • Laishley House, built in 1858 for Rev Laishley, a minister of the Congregational Church
  • Blockhouse, built in 1860 as part of Auckland's defences.

The houses have some rooms furnished with locally-sourced items in keeping with the era. Other rooms hold collections of memorabilia.

There will be photo displays of local people, and a video featuring Elizabeth Yates, Onehunga's woman mayor and pioneer of women's political rights.

Talk: Dall'Altra Parte Del Mondo (To The Other Side Of The World) - Sunday 14 October, 2pm, The Blockhouse, Jellicoe Park (Entrance by Grey St), Onehunga

Giuseppe Gallina will give a talk about Italian immigrants. Archives will be on display.
