Talk (2pm): Rev Arthur Purchas

John Steele, author of a new book on Arthur Purchas, discusses the life and works of the remarkable first minister of St Peter's.

Purchas fathered 14 children, had broad interests, and was variously a doctor, surgeon, Church of England priest, architect, engineer, carpenter, musician, botanist, inventor, discoverer and explorer.

Archbishop A.W. Averill described Purchas as "the most gifted man ever to come to New Zealand".
