Event details

One of Auckland's premiere brass ensembles, Howick Brass, will present a selection with a range of soloists and music that covers the New Zealand spectrum.

A highlight will be the magnificent work 'Von Tempsky', recently composed by Aucklander Anthony Young.

Von Tempsky was a charismatic character who fought in the New Zealand Wars and was a correspondent in Drury for the Daily Southern Cross newspaper. He joined up with the Forest Rangers and would often patrol the Hunua Ranges south of Auckland.

Very well reviewed and amazingly textured, 'Von Tempsky' is a tour de force for a brass ensemble. Featuring traditional Māori instruments along with the full band, this work redefines story-telling with a brass ensemble.

Also featured are some melodious, recognisable traditional pieces, building a programme that will resonate with all.
