Event details

Takāraro, better known as Mt Cambria Reserve, is a quiet park with a surprising history.

The reserve was once a volcano, part of a wider area of intensive Māori settlement, and home to kāinga and pā. By the 1930s quarrying had made the cone all but disappear.

This year, the reserve is being recognised as a site of significance to Mana Whenua.

Use your phone and take a self-guided treasure hunt to look for geocaches planted for the Heritage Festival.

Each cache has a different story about the landscape and will open your eyes to the surprising history all around you.
