Event details

Captain Cook first introduced the potato to South Island Māori in 1769.

Māori adopted the potato, as it resembled kūmara (sweet potato) and could be grown in a similar fashion.

More importantly, potatoes tolerated cooler conditions than kūmara. They were reliable and high-yielding, and quickly became a key crop.

Spaces are limited to 10 people per session. Children must be 8-15 years of age. Tickets are paid for on the day at OTT.
