Event details

New immigrants fed the growth of the Newton. It was a bustling Auckland suburb with houses, shops, schools, and churches.

The motorway construction - Spaghetti Junction - in the 1960s-1970s changed all that. This saw 15,000 houses demolished in the inner city and surrounding suburbs, forcing 50,000 residents to move elsewhere.

Who were these early residents of Newton? Take a glimpse into the lives of the people who lived in Newton from 1850 to 1910.

Sit back (chair provided) and get ready to be transported (via video link) to the olden days of Auckland.
