Event details

We all know that Auckland City is built over the Auckland Volcanic Field. Less well-known is that Papakura and Franklin districts are sited on the older and larger South Auckland Volcanic Field. This stretches from Red Hill (Papakura) and Hunua Falls in the north, to Kellyville (Mercer) and Pukekawa in the south.

Join Auckland Geology Group on a field trip to the Rooseville Tuff Ring. We will look at the geology and consider how this volcanic feature, and others like it, have influenced the settlement and development of Pukekohe.

What you need to know:

  • Not suitable for children under 10 years.
  • This field trip will proceed regardless of the weather
  • Please bring lunch (no café stops)
  • Come prepared for rain
  • Wear appropriate gear for walking on footpaths and grass; some of the walks will be steep and may be slippery if it has rained recently.
