Event details

Catch the 9.15am ferry to Rangitoto Island from Auckland city or Devonport.

Your guide will meet you at Rangitoto Wharf and take you through the Kidney Fern Glen to the prison camp site. You will then walk back along the coastal track past the baches to the UNESCO award winning bach.

A welcome morning tea will be waiting for you.

Learn about some of the characters who lived on Rangitoto like:

  • the bach owners who came for holidays
  • those who lived and worked on the island
  • the prison labourers who built the roads, tennis courts and swimming pool.

The tour takes about two hours. You will be able to catch the 12.45pm ferry home, or stay and explore and catch a later ferry.
