Event details

Māori and European encounters led to trading of food.

Europeans relied on Māori for fish and native vegetables. Captain James Cook introduced potatoes and the kunekune pig to the Māori in 1769.

From 1803 potatoes and pigs quickly became a new currency. Tribes often made gifts of valued items.

Make your booking to join us for a puha, pork and potato feast and discover why the flavour is so remarkable.
