Author of The Point: a history of Point Chevalier and its people, Debra Millar, presents an illustrated talk about Point Chevalier's earliest European settlers, and highlights a little-known French connection with the area.

Named after Lieutenant George Chevalier, Debra Miller is the author of 'The Point: a history of Point Chevalier and its people'.

Named after Lieutenant George Chevalier, Point Chevalier became home to the D'gnan family, who fled France in the 1800s.

Debra will talk about:

  • the earliest European settlers and early military history
  • a little-known French connection with the area
  • why the D'gnan family changed the spelling of their name and the role

    they played in the development of the area.
